An excellent throwback to the original with much smoother controls and less annoying camera. Although I have to say that the game is short as hell and the nostalgia is short lived. However, as I played, I couldn't help but eventually come to the actualization that the levels were short and bland. There's nothing unique about them that gives you the idea that you're making any progress you can appreciate. Secrets and collectibles are practically thrown at you and there's no sense of achievement once you've actually gotten them all. The visuals feel recycled and uninspired. The music wasn't nearly as memorable, save the AWESOME main theme of the first level which makes me still come back to this from time to time. The mechanics of this variation are practically unrivaled anywhere, but it seems as though they were worked on for the majority of the time while everything was just thrown together in minutes. Certain sound effects were smartly improved which was a relief, but again, only some. The game has some sense of exploration, granted, but it all feels like it was all jam packed into these few levels that are neither long nor challenging. I'm glad the penguin was removed though, as I found that idea kinda stupid in the original. Overall underwhelming, but still recommended. I hope the rest of features that should be constituting this game such as visuals and level design make a comeback in world 4.
